Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand and an important industrial town situated on the Chotanagar plateau. Once the summer capital of Bihar, Ranchi is mainly a transit to BetlaNational Park or used as a base for touring the nearby waterfalls. There is not much to see in Ranchi except for the JagannathTemple and the TribalResearchInstituteMuseum. The JagannathTemple is a smaller version of the one at Puri. The The Tribal Research Museum gives a peek into the history and culture of Jharkhand’s tribal groups like the Asurs, Mundas and the Gonds.
There are several picturesque waterfalls around Ranchi which tourists can visit on day trips. The best season to visit these falls is between the months of November and March. The HundruFalls is a popular picnic spot near Ranchi. The falls are situated about 45 kms away from Ranchi where the Subarnarekha river plunges 320 feet to make this a picturesque location.
The JonhaFalls, 40 kms from Ranchi on the on Ranchi -Purulia road, the SitaFalls adjacent to the Jonha falls, and the HirniFalls situated 75 kms from Ranchi are other popular tourist attractions near Ranchi.
Getting there:
Ranchi has good road connections to the rest of the state. Regular buses are available from Kolkata, Patna, Jamshedpur, Durgapur, Asansol, Rourkela, Cuttack, Siliguri and other neighboring cities. Ranchi has a domestic airport called BhagwanBirsaMundaAirport. It is connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Patna. Ranchi is also well connected to the rest of the country by a good rail connection. Regular trains are available from major cities like Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai and Patna
