If your idea of a perfect holiday is to unwind on an isolated, near-deserted beach then head to the NeilIsland in the Andamans. 40 kms north east of Port Blair, NeilIsland is an ideal place to rent a bicycle and ride around the peaceful village, walk through the jungles, try some snorkeling or fishing or just soak up the sun on the beach. The island is occupied by mainly Bengali settlers and the ferries are available from Port Blair to reach NeilIsland. Dotted with tropical trees, green paddies and banana plantations, the island is a perfect destination for eco tourism
NeilIsland is quieter than Havelock with nice beaches and snorkeling. The beaches of NeilIsland are numbered 1 to 5 and beach #1 is the best beach. Water activities become difficult due to the corals at low tide therefore any snorkeling or other water activities should be scheduled at high tide. Also see the natural bridge rock formation on beach #2. NeilIsland is a good destination for a day trip from Port Blair. There is a ferry from Port Blair in the mornings that takes about 2 hours to get here. Take the same ferry back in the evening.
