Gumbaz in Srirangapatnam, also known as Gumad-e-Ala, houses the mortal remains of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali and his mother, Fatima Begum. Situated outside the fort, the Gumbaz is an imposing structure, right in the middle of the beautiful Lalbagh Garden. It is built on a raised platform and is surrounded by several other tombs of relatives and nobles. Gumbaz has an open balcony with polished black basalt pillars on all sides.The Gumbaz has splendid ebony doors inlaid with ivory. Tipu's favourite Tiger stripes cover the walls. The three doors made of ebony and inlaid with ivory were gifted by Lord Dalhousie Next to the Gumbaz is a mosque, Masjid-e-Aksa. The beautiful Lalbagh Garden surrounding it makes the Gumbaz a true delight for the eyes.
