Gandhinagar is the state capital of Gujarat and is about 32 kms from Ahmedabad. It is named after Mahatma Gandhi and is the second planned city in India after Chandigarh.
The Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, built by the Swaminarayan group is the main attraction of the city. The temple complex is elaborately carved out of pink sandstone and is surrounded by lush gardens and manicured lawns.
Capital Complex houses the legislature and government offices. The magnificently domed Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan situated at the centre of a circular lake houses the Vidhan Sabha and the legislature offices.
The deer park on the outskirts of the city also attracts large crowds.
There are direct buses to Gandhinagar from Ahmedabad. One can also hire a taxi for the 45 minute drive.
