Datia, Northern India

Introduction

Datia is situated on the road that links Gwalior with Jhansi. Located in the north eastern part of Madhya Pradesh, Datia is best known for its historical seven storey palace of Raja Bir Singh Deo, built atop a hill. The town is surrounded by a stone wall enclosing magnificent palaces and gardens.

Datia can be easily accessed from Jhansi (34 kms) in Uttar Pradesh or Gwalior (69 kms) in Madhya Pradesh. Regular buses are available from both the cities.

Tourist Attractions:
The Bir Singh Deo Palace is the most popular attraction of Datia. This 17th century palace is one of the finest examples of domestic Hindu architecture of north India. The palace was built by Bir Singh Deo on a rocky ridge and has five visible stories.

The other places worth visiting here are the temple with Mughal frescoes, the Gopeshwar temple and the Bundela palaces and paintings.
