Chiplun is a coastal town that lies in the Konkan region between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea.  The name Chiplun means "The abode of Lord Parshuram" and one of the major attractions of this place is the Parshuram temple that dates back to over 700 years.  Ideal for a weekend getaway, Chiplun is usually a stop over point for those driving from Mumbai to Goa.  The town lies on the banks of the Vashishti River and boat rides in the river and trekking in the surrounding hilly areas are popular activities for tourists visiting Chiplun. Chiplun is also an important industrial town in the Konkan region with many Pharmaceutical and Chemical industries. 

Chiplun experiences a tropical climate with hot summers, cold winters and heavy rainfall. The best time to visit Chiplun is between the months of September and April.

 Located on the Mumbai Goa Highway, Chiplun is about 265 kms from Mumbai, 200 kms from Pune and 75 kms from Ratnagiri. The drive to Chiplun is picturesque.
