Along is the headquarters of West Siang district in the North-Eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Sitting amidst abundant natural surroundings, Along in Arunachal Pradesh is a small town with beautiful villages based on the South Bank of the Siyom River. It is an ideal place to spend the hot summer seasons. It is located about 150 km from Likabali which is at the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The Along valley and is extremely beautiful. It has mountains all around with two rivers flowing through it - the Sipu and Siyom. Both these rivers converge at Belun Ghat and ultimately meet the Siang which is one of the biggest rivers in Arunachal Pradesh. The picturesque surroundings laced with brilliant plantations makes Along one of the most perfect health resorts of India.

Fishing and Angling on river Siyom are the most enjoyed activities for the tourists here. Also ideal locations are available for river rafting, angling with splendid picnic spots here. Along is ideal for trekking and hiking too.
Along is mainly inhabited by Adi (Also known as Gallong) tribes. The ‘Adi’, meaning "Hillman", is the most prominent and independent minded of all the tribes in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring areas. Both men and women wear their hair close cropped. The Adis have two main divisions - Bogum and Onai and under each there are a number of sub-tribes - which slightly differ from each other; like the Minyong, Pasi, Padam, Bori, and Bokar; Gallong being the most prominent among them. Adi villages are well organized. The main feature of the Adi villages is the dormitory club for boys and men called Moshup. Some villages also have a separate club for girls called Rishong. Houses in these villages are artistically built on the hill slope without using nails but only of bamboo and cane. The main deity is Donyi Polo (Sun Moon God), a compound deity who is regarded as the eye of the world and is the upholder of moral laws. The Adi show their sense of artistry and proficiency mainly in weaving.
One can have a visit of Jirdin, Kabu, Kaying, Tapi, Tribin and Bam villages enroute to Along as this provides an insight into the culture of the people of Along. Languages spoken here are Adi, Hindi, Assamese and a little English.
The best time to visit Along is October to April. For clothing, woolens in winters and cottons in summers are suitable.
Tourists would need a restricted area permit (RAP) to visit few parts of Arunachal Pradesh apart from a valid Indian Visa for foreign nationals
Along is connected to the nearest airport at Lilabari and and nearest railway station at Silapathar. One can also reach by bus or car from Likabali, Pasighat or the Capital Itanagar.

The nearest airport to Along is at Lilabari in Assam. From here one can hire a bus or taxi to reach Along.
By Rail:
The nearest railway station is located at Silapathar. Bus or taxi services from here are available to reach Along.
By Road:
One can reach Along by bus or car from Likabali and Pasighat. Bus/Taxis are available from North Lakhimpur or Itanagar.
Local Transport:
A very small number of unmetered Taxis are available from the capital Itanagar. It is best for tourists to book a taxi/jeep from here itself to avoid inconvenience. Tourist/Deluxe buses are available on rent from the Director, Tourism, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Nahariagun. A few other transport agencies in the state capital rent out private tourist cars and coaches.
Ramakrishna Ashram: This is a nice place to visit in Along. The place provides items related to Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Maa Sharada and Swami Vivekananda.
HangingBridge: Hanging bridge on the Siang river is another thing to see at Along. This bridge is local made of cane and bamboo. The bridge is around 60 to 70 mts. long connecting to the others hill tribes. Fishing is a local sport for the tribes here.
Accommodation is available at Circuit House and Inspection Bungalow. The Reservation authority to stay here lies with the Deputy Commissioner, Along.
The places one can visit at Along are the Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm at Kamaki which is 25 kms away from Along.
The villages Kambig, Bogne and Kereng of are also places to visit nearby to Along.
